Volunteer Firefighters

In 1948, a group of men wanting to offer effective protection services against fires in Caraquet started the volunteer firefighters' brigade.
For more than 55 years, many courageous people have been fighting the flames in the Acadian Peninsula, sometimes in very dangerous situations. Today, approximately twenty firefighters look after the population's safety with the help of ultramodern equipment, including fire trucks, the Jaws of Life, a rescue boat that acts as an auxiliary coast guard vessel, a snowmobile and a rescue sled.
